Welcome! KDNK provides public access radio that connects community members to one another and the world.

The Carbondale Wild West Rodeo is in full swing this season, attracting everyone from causal fans to rodeo fanatics. Four-year-old kids ride sheep for the Mutton Bustin' competition in the same arena as serious bull riders, barrel racers and more. You'll often see an entire family of three generations participating in events and cheering each other on. For a few individuals who are skilled enough at their sport to win events regularly, the prize money from the rodeo is enough for them to live off; but most participants agree that money isn't the reason they love Carbondale's Rodeo so much - it's all about being part of a great community event, showing your stuff and having a good time - rain or shine.

Commentator and radio legend Jim Hightower spoke with KDNK's Steve Skinner about the economy, heath care, and most importantly ... how to be an agitator.

Alternative energy in the Western United States is moving forward. But is the change happening fast enough? KDNK's Conrad Wilson spoke with Sarah Gillman, assistant editor at High Country News about the transformation.

Just steps away from the police department, in the heart of town, the Carbondale Rec Center is one of two buildings in Colorado awarded a LEED platinum certification by the US Green Building Council. And now those solar panels are back up. But as KDNK's Conrad Wilson reports, no arrests have been made.

For the first time in two years, researchers in Colorado have found Lynx kittens. The predatory cat was reintroduced in the state in 1999, after a nearly 35 year absence. KDNK's Conrad Wilson reports.
Longtime KDNK friend and supporter John Palmer has passed away. His contributions to the station span decades. Carbondale has lost one of the great characters and contributors. Follow the link for John's Obituary from the Sopris Sun.

Bill McKibben was early to predict the threat of climate change. In 1989 his first book, "The End of Nature," was the first book on climate change written for a general audience. McKibben went on to write a dozen books, including "Deep Economy." Now he is focused on rallying activism, specifically through a campaign called 350, which he explained to KDNK reporter Marilyn Gleason in Telluride, where he was the keynote speaker last month at Mountain Film.
KDNK Blues and BBQ to feature a Crossroads Jam with Howard Berkman and Johnny O. It's coming to Sopris Park in downtown Carbondale on August 22.
